Help with the Low-cost Spay/Neuter Program

Picture
MAX IS A HANDSOME KITTY.
Star of the North Humane Society coordinates a low-cost spay/neuter program on the first Thursday and Friday of each month. Owners register their pets at the Harris Town Hall at 5:45 AM on Thursday. At 6:30 AM the animals are transported by the Northland Clinic Spay/Neuter van to Duluth where the surgeries are performed that day. The animals spend the night and are brought back to the Harris Town Hall on Friday where the owners pick them up at 9:00 AM.
We are always in need of volunteers for this valuable service.  On Thursday we need people to help with the registration process, label the animals and carriers, and load the animals into the Northland van. We also need help on Friday when owners pick up their pets.  If you are interested in helping with any of these tasks, please CLICK HERE to fill out the Volunteer Application and then contact Cindy Mahon, Spay/Neuter Coordinator for Star of the North Humane Society, at cindymahon@gmail.com

Assist With Donated Food Pickup and Distribution

A BASKETFUL OF FOOD FOR HUNGRY ANIMALS!

Target, Walmart, and other generous individuals donate pet food to Star of the North. Star of the North distributes the food to community food shelf programs, individuals who are doing rescues in their neighborhood, and other people taking care of animals who have been identified as needing emergency assistance. We need people to pick up, log, and take the food to our storage site. We also need people to pick up food from our storage area and deliver it to organizations or individuals who need the pet food. If you are interested, please fill out the Volunteer Application.

Transport Animals

EZAMARELDA NEEDED A RIDE TO HER NEW HOME.

Sometimes animals need a ride to new shelters or their new forever homes. If you are interested, please fill out the Volunteer Application.

Star of the North Humane Society is a non-sheltering humane society operated solely by volunteers. Our volunteers facilitate a low-cost spay/neuter program and distribute donated pet food to local food shelves, small rescue groups, and needy individuals. We also help with rehoming companion animals and with providing veterinary care for rescued animals.  When you call, please leave a clear message. There is no one to take your initial call, but we make every effort to respond as soon as possible. If you have submitted an application to volunteer, your application will be processed as soon as possible and you will receive an email or phone call confirming the status.
